The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) recently awarded both the CX-90 and CX-90 Plug-In Hybrid models their highest honor – the 2023 TOP SAFETY PICK+ rating. This achievement proves that the CX-90 meets and exceeds the most rigorous safety standards.
New Safety Test Requirements
For 2023, IIHS increased the requirements for earning the TOP SAFETY PICK+ distinction. Vehicles must receive a good rating in the driver-side small overlap front, passenger-side small overlap front, moderate overlap front and updated side crash tests. They must also have acceptable or good headlights standard across all trims. Additionally, they need advanced or superior ratings for the front crash prevention system in vehicle-to-pedestrian evaluations, for both daytime and nighttime conditions.
The CX-90 met and surpassed all these new, more stringent qualifications. Mazda engineers specifically designed the vehicle to perform well in IIHS testing, with a focus on excellent crashworthiness and advanced crash avoidance tech.
